The Evils Congress

Halloween Drama in Education in action!

Celebrated Halloween this year by facilitating a drama in education workshop at Barcelona High School (BHS) appropriately titled The Evils Congress. Spooky! 👻

A twist on the classic story of Pandora’s Box, in this workshop the students took on the role of scientists 👩‍🔬 investigating the modern “evils” in our world today like billionaires and greed. They imagined these evils as viruses 🦠 , and presented in role as experts analysing how these evils came to be, what nurtures them, and how to prevent them from transmitting.

Providing opportunities for students to take the reins in their learning brings a unique energy and ownership to the classroom. Through role-play, they questioned 🧐 💭 how these very relevant themes manifest in our society and their own lives. Seeing them present their findings with passion, drawing from their own real world knowledge and experiences, was a reminder of how transformative it can be when we create spaces where students don’t just learn passively—they engage, analyze, and grow. 🙌

In every workshop with students like this one, I’m reminded that empowering young minds to think critically about the world around them isn’t just about imparting knowledge; it’s about nurturing their ability to shape the future. 🌱

Can you guess which ‘evil’ virus is represented in the first photo?
