My Go-To Drama Techniques

Two of my favorite drama techniques aren’t just fun for kids—they help develop essential 21st-century skills like confidence, critical thinking, and collaboration.

🎭 Hot-Seating – Kids step into character and answer questions in role, strengthening their quick thinking, creativity, and ability to express ideas on the spot—valuable skills for public speaking, leadership, and communication.

🎭 Freeze Frame & Thought Tap – Using body language and facial expression, kids create a still image of a character and voice their thoughts out loud. This builds emotional awareness, storytelling skills, and teamwork, while also encouraging empathy and deeper reflection—key for navigating complex social situations.

In my work as an applied theatre facilitator, we use play and performance to help kids grow into confident, adaptable, and expressive individuals. Drama isn’t just about acting—it’s about preparing young people for the world.

I’d love to connect with educators, parents, and anyone passionate about arts-based learning! How do you see creative education shaping the next generation?
