A few weeks ago, I delivered a training course on using Drama to Teach English with Euromentor SL. These were some of the key benefits of drama that participants highlighted in their Erasmus+ dissemination.

Ice-breakers, shared vocabulary, and poetic self-introductions gave everyone a way in from the very first hour. Drama makes it easier to participate, especially for people who might not usually speak up straight away.

Moving from โ€œIโ€ to โ€œWeโ€ showed how individual expression can become collective meaning. That shift is powerful in any classroom, team, or learning space.

Warm-ups, Freeze Frame, Image Theatre… all of these techniques show that bodies are not just present in learning, they are part of the learning. This is where ideas become embodied and memorable.

From social evils to oppression, from real to ideal, drama creates a structured way to explore complex issues with honesty, creativity, and care.

What started as poems, images, and personal reflections became collective text, shared performance, and community thinking. That arc is what makes drama so useful in education: it builds not just skills, but connection, reflection, and shared understanding.

This is why I am a firm believer that drama is a powerful approach to education.

Not just because it helps with language learning.

Because it helps people think, listen, respond, and connect… in classrooms, in teams, in communities, in any space where learning actually happens.

It makes space for confidence, curiosity, and conversation.

And that feels pretty valuable anywhere.
