Open Dialogues

What happens when you empower people with tools to make learning more active?

That’s exactly what we explored in our second online Drama 101 session yesterday.

Last time, we focused on ice-breakers. This time, we worked with open dialogue, and as usual, it’s so much more than just the activity itself. This was an example of the open dialogue the participants worked with; their task was to figure out what was happening, why it was happening, and with who it was happening to.

A: So…
B: So what?
A: Have you decided?
B: No.
A: We don’t have much time.
B: Wait
A: Come on
B: Let’s _______

This simple activity develops so many essential skills such as:
 • Collaboration.
 • Problem-solving.
 • Listening and responding in the moment.
 • Flexibility and acceptance.
 • Decision-making under pressure.
 • Communication with others, not just at others.
 • Confidence to keep going, even when the script is incomplete.

That’s the point. Drama is rarely ever about just performance, rather it’s about the life skills people build through it.

The feedback said it best: drama makes learning more active, more human, and much more useful.
