Bansko Nomad Fest day two, and my key takeaway was: ππΌππΏ ππ»πΆπΎππ²π»π²ππ πΆπ ππΌππΏ πππ½π²πΏπ½πΌππ²πΏ.
The session that resonated with me most today was Piera Mattioliβs talk on online collaboration through participatory design.
In meetings, online or in person, there are often voices that donβt get heard. Maybe people need more time to find their words, or other voices naturally take up more space. This is something weβve also discussed with Julia Slay in her trainings.
What I appreciated in Pieraβs talk was the reminder that inclusion starts in the design process, not just in the final workshop or experience. Itβs about making sure every voice is considered from the beginning.
Itβs always inspiring to see how other facilitators approach participatory design. It gives me more tools to use, and itβs also encouraging to see people doing the work to make space for everyoneβs voice.
A simple tip to share for inclusive design: give multiple ways to engage.
Not just speaking.
Write in the chat.
Write on a sticky note.
Talk in pairs first.
Use a time limit for sharing.
So many simple ways to design for inclusion.
A few other reflections from day 2:
β’ Anna (Ania) Esipova human-centered sales session was a strong reminder to lead with who you are, not just what youβre selling.
β’ Alison GrΓΌn‘s talk on how your unique passion (in her case, motorcycle riding!) can empower local communities and women during travel.
β’ Tim Chimoyβs talk made me reflect on freedom, movement, and whether we become lonelier as we become more mobile.
Iβm really enjoying the diversity of the talks. Sad to have missed some of the unconferences, like Andreea Rusuβs on traveling through the coliving community and Yeji Cheonβs on nonviolent communication, but thereβs still more to come in the days ahead.
