Yesterday in Barcelona, I got to witness Spain’s well earned victory, what an experience! What stood out to me most was not just the result, but the way it was achieved.
It was a reminder that great performance is never only about individual talent. It’s about teamwork, trust, communication, adaptability, and emotional resilience. Under pressure, those soft skills become everything. They are what help a team stay connected, recover from setbacks, and keep moving together toward a shared goal.
That’s what makes this such a powerful lesson beyond football. In our work, our relationships, and our daily lives, the ability to regulate emotions, collaborate well, and stay grounded under pressure is what often determines whether we simply cope or truly thrive.
Spain’s win was a brilliant example of how collective strength is built on more than skill alone. It’s built on the human qualities that hold teams together: listening, supporting one another, staying composed, and believing in the bigger picture even when the moment feels intense.
Soft skills are not “soft” at all. They are essential.
By the way, Kathrin and I are running Reconnect, a 3 part online workshop series in August for people who feel a little disconnected from themselves, from others, or from the way they want to move through life. We will be introducing different communication frameworks for soft skill development.
We still have 3 spots left, and we have a taster session coming up this Friday 15:30-17:00 CET. You can register here.
